Race Regulations

Málaga Sport AD and Sport Life Ibérica organize, with the collaboration of the Hon. Málaga City Council, the XXXVI Málaga City Half Marathon; which will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2027, at 8:15 in the morning.

The distance to be covered will be 21.097 km on a course certified by RFEA and World Athletics; any person, licensed or not, may take part as long as they are 18 years old on the day of the race.

1. COURSE

This race is held under the road running regulations of World Athletics and RFEA, and is included in the race calendar of RFEA and World Athletics. The course will be controlled and monitored by the Municipal Police, mobility officers and members of the Organization. In addition, each kilometer will be marked vertically and horizontally.

The road sections of the course in the 2027 edition are as follows:

2. WORLD ATHLETICS, RFEA CALENDAR AND OFFICIALS CONTROL

The XXXVI Málaga City Half Marathon is included in the World Athletics, RFEA and Andalusian Athletics Federation calendar and controlled by the Provincial Officials Committee. Any claim must be addressed to the Race Referee within 30 minutes after the announcement of results.

The maximum time to complete the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon is 3 hours from the official start of the last wave.

The TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon 2027 plans to carry out wave starts in order to improve comfort and safety for all runners, according to the order of verified finish times.

The race start will be done in waves, beginning at 8:15 a.m., according to the following schedule:

  • At 8:15 runners up to 1h 30’ will start
  • At 8:20 runners up to 1h 45’ will start
  • At 8:27 runners up to 2h will start
  • 8:35 runners from 2h onwards will start

The race control will successively close at km 5, 10, 15, 20 and Finish, with maximum permitted times of 40’, 1h:20’, 2h:00’, 2h:40’ and 2h:50’, respectively, from the start of the last runner. When a participant exceeds the time limit, they will be overtaken by the sweep vehicle indicating the end of the race, and must withdraw or, if continuing, will do so under their own responsibility and must obey traffic rules and road signs like any other road user.

Aid stations will be set up at kilometers 5.5; 10.5; 13; 15.5; 18 and Finish with water and/or isotonic drinks.

The Organization has Medical Services.

The Organization provides a bag check service near the Start area.

Any clarification of the rules of this race will be provided by the Race Organization.

Any manipulation, alteration or falsification of the registered athlete’s personal data will result in immediate disqualification.

The bib number may not be cut or folded, and must be worn fully visible on the runner’s chest.

All officially registered participants will be covered by an Insurance Policy arranged by the Organization, covering accidents that occur as a direct consequence of the event; and never due to an ailment, latent condition, recklessness, negligence, failure to observe laws or the articles of this Regulation. This insurance does not cover incidents occurring during travel to or from the race venue.

The Organization is not responsible for damage participants may cause or suffer due to their own recklessness or negligence. Likewise, the participant declares they are in optimal physical condition to take part in this race and does so under their sole responsibility, exempting the Race Organization from all liability. Registering for this race implies full acceptance of these rules.

The only vehicles authorized to follow the race will be those designated by the Organization. The Local Police will sanction drivers who fail to comply with these rules.

Categories, for results purposes only, follow those currently established by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.

3. SUSTAINABLE HALF MARATHON

The Málaga Half Marathon will be carried out in an environmentally friendly manner and to achieve this, the collaboration of each and every participant is essential. Therefore, we provide this information to facilitate your cooperation:

  • After the aid stations there will be yellow containers located 30 and 100 meters from the aid station for depositing water bottles. If you decide to keep the bottle beyond 100 m, you must carry it with you until the next station. In any case, they must be deposited in the containers, NEVER thrown on the ground.
  • At the finish line, there will be yellow containers distributed throughout the area for the same purpose.
  • Waste must be deposited in the containers, NEVER thrown on the ground.
  • Respect for the environment: The Race runs through urban areas that must be respected for the benefit of everyone.

4. REGISTRATIONS:

The Organization of the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon establishes a maximum capacity of 14,000 participants for the 2027 edition.

Registrations may be completed in the following way:

The registration opening date will be Friday, March 20, 2026, until Monday, March 1, 2027, or until the 14,000 available registrations are sold out.

4.1. PRICES AND TIERS:

Seven registration tiers are established, at the following prices:

  • First 2000 registrations or until March 26, 2026:
    • Standard registrations: €23
    • People with disabilities (33%): €11.5
  • From registration 2001 to registration 4000 or from March 27 to May 13, 2026:
    • Standard registrations: €28
    • People with disabilities (33%): €14
  • From registration 4001 to registration 6000 from May 14 to June 30, 2026:
    • Standard registrations: €33
    • People with disabilities (33%): €16.5
  • From registration 6001 to registration 8000 or from July 1 to September 15, 2026:
    • Standard registrations: €37
    • People with disabilities (33%): €18.5
  • From registration 8001 to registration 10000 or from September 16 to December 2, 2026:
    • Standard registrations: €41
    • People with disabilities (33%): €20.5
  • From registration 10001 to registration 12000 or from December 3, 2026 to January 19, 2027:
    • Standard registrations: €45
    • People with disabilities (33%): €22.5
  • From registration 12001 to registration 14000 or from January 20 to March 1, 2027:
    • Standard registrations: €50
    • People with disabilities (33%): €25
  • Registration at the Expo, if bibs are available (March 5 and 6):
    • Standard registrations: €70
    • People with disabilities (33%): €35
  • Once the bibs are sold out, registrations coming from the waiting list covering the withdrawals of registered runners will have a price of €70 (standard registration) and €35 for people with disabilities (33%).

* The price of the registration must include the cost of the Day License of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), which is €4. This cost will be refunded at the Runner’s Expo to all those who prove they have a National Federation License in 2027. The station for these refunds will be located next to the bib pickup, at the Solutions counter.

4.2 .CANCELLATION GUARANTEE:

Once the registration is completed, the amount will not be refunded under any circumstances. At the time of registering, the runner may choose a cancellation guarantee for their registration, with two options, and must select one when registering:

  1. I do not want any guarantee
  2. Standard cancellation guarantee. Cost of €5. Refund of 100% of the registration fee until February 14, 2027. After that date, registrations will be considered final.

General conditions of the cancellation guarantee:

  • The cancellation guarantee can only be purchased at the time of registration.
  • The amount of the cancellation guarantee is non-refundable in any case.

However, changes of ownership will be accepted without this guarantee until February 14, 2027 with a cost of €8.

Cancellation requests and changes of ownership must be made via the email inscripciones@deporticket.com within the indicated deadlines.

4.3. REGISTRATION METHODS

Registrations may be completed through the official website mediamaratonmalaga.com

4.4 .START IN PREFERRED CORRAL

The runner must indicate their estimated finish time at the moment of registration, in order to access the corral corresponding to their time on the start straight and avoid crowding as much as possible.

To access corrals for a time under 1h30’, it will be necessary to provide, at the moment of registration and through a link to the athlete’s result on the official website, the finish time achieved in an official certified race within the last two years and corresponding to the time of the corral in which they wish to start.

In the event that the race must be suspended because the weather conditions advise it or due to force majeure (not attributable to the organizer), the registration fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

4.5. CONSIDERATIONS

  • Registration is personal and non-transferable and implies full acceptance of these regulations.
  • Once registration is completed, participation may only be transferred to another person with a change of holder until February 14, 2027, at a cost of €10 under the conditions established in these regulations.
  • T-shirt sizes will be handed out in strict order of race bib-chip collection and according to the size requested at the time of registration. The Organizers do not guarantee being able to deliver to all participants the requested T-shirt size, since T-shirt production begins long before registration closes.
  • Registration will close before the scheduled deadlines if all available slots are filled: 14,000 bib numbers.
  • The registration fee will not be refunded under any circumstances, including injuries or work-related reasons, except for those who have contracted the cancellation and change of conditions insurance, and under its terms.
  • To certify disability status, it must be attached at the time of completing the registration through the registration form itself. Alternatively, a copy of the disability degree accreditation card may be sent by email to the same address.
  • From 0:01 on Tuesday, March 2, 2027, no registrations will be accepted.

5. CATEGORIES

The following categories are established:

  • Overall M / F
  • Sub 20 M / F: Born in 2008 and 2009 (of age on race day)
  • Sub 23 M / F: Born from 2005 to 2007
  • Senior M / F: Born from 2004 up to Master (35 years)
  • Master M 35 / F 35: From 35 to 39 years
  • Master M 40 / F 40: From 40 to 44 years
  • Master M 45 / F 45: From 45 to 49 years
  • Master M 50 / F 50: From 50 to 54 years
  • Master M 55 / F 55: From 55 to 59 years
  • Master M 60 / F 60: From 60 to 64 years
  • Master M 65 / F 65: From 65 to 69 years
  • Master M 70 / F 70: From 70 to 74 years
  • Master M 75 / F 75: From 75 to 79 years
  • Master M 80 / F 80: From 80 to 85 years
  • Master M 85 / F 85: Over 85 years.
  • Athletes with wheelchair disability M/ F
  • Athletes with physical disability M/ F
  • Athletes with sensory disability M/F
  • Athletes with intellectual disability M/F

Note: All indicated ages must be reached on race day.

6. RACE BIB-CHIP AND OFFICIAL T-SHIRT COLLECTION

Collection of the race bib-chip and official T-shirt will take place exclusively at the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon Runner’s Expo, at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Arena (c/ Miguel de Mérida Nicolich, 2, Ctra. de Cádiz, 29004 Málaga), uninterrupted from 10:00 to 20:00 on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, 2027.

To collect the race bib-chip, runners must present the receipt or a copy of the registration, along with their ID card, passport, or another official identity document.

If unable to collect the race bib in person, an authorization must be issued to the person collecting it, presenting a photocopy of the registered runner’s ID at pickup.

The T-shirt will be handed out upon presentation of the race bib-chip.

Important:

  • Runners may not request a different size than the one selected at registration.
  • The organization does not guarantee being able to deliver to all runners the size requested at registration, as production takes place before registration closes.
  • No race bibs or T-shirts will be handed out on race day.
  • Bib numbers include a disposable chip, so they must not be folded, manipulated, or altered in any way, including their advertising.
  • Finish times will only be recorded if the race bib-chip is correctly placed on the front of the torso.

7. RANKINGS. TROPHIES AND PRIZES

The following Rankings will be made:

  • Overall Men's and Women's Ranking
  • Men's and Women's Ranking for Athletes with Wheelchair Disability
  • Men's and Women's Ranking for Athletes with Physical Disability
  • Men's and Women's Ranking for Athletes with Sensory Disability
  • Men's and Women's Ranking for Athletes with Intellectual Disability
  • Age Group Men's and Women's Ranking
  • Spanish Men's and Women's Ranking

A T-shirt will be given to every athlete who registers for the race, delivered at the time of race bib collection.

A commemorative medal will be given to every athlete who finishes the race.

If multiple or staggered starts are established, the age group rankings will be determined using the official time from the moment their wave starts until they cross the finish line.

The top three finishers in the Overall Ranking will receive a trophy.

The top 3 finishers in each category will receive a trophy.

All runners who obtain any of the prizes established by the Organization must present their ID card or Passport when collecting it.

These prizes are cumulative with the Individual Overall Ranking and will only be paid when the achieved time is under 1:03:00 for men and 1:11:00 for women.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • If athletes do not achieve the required minimum time, the cash prize will be reduced by half.
  • The half marathon record prize will be awarded only to the winner and will be cumulative with the rest of the prizes.
  • Presentation of an identity document is required to collect the prizes.
  • All cash prizes are subject to legally required tax withholdings and to recognition of the performance by the RFEA.
  • The prizes for the overall, national, and course record rankings will not be paid until the antidoping control results are published.
  • If a prize winner tests positive, they will be disqualified and lose the prize, and the ranking will advance accordingly.

Any participant born in Spain will be considered a Spanish athlete.

Any participant born in Andalusia will be considered an Andalusian athlete.

Any participant born in Málaga will be considered a Málaga athlete.

ALL TROPHIES NOT COLLECTED ON RACE DAY WILL REMAIN AT THE DISPOSAL OF THE ORGANIZATION, WHICH WILL CONSIDER THAT THEY HAVE BEEN RENOUNCED.

7.2 PUBLICATION OF RESULTS AND CLAIMS

The provisional results will be posted on a board placed by the Organization next to the finish area and/or podium, as well as on the official event website. These results are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the RFEA Judges Committee members. They will also be published later on the official website.

Claims affecting positions in the ranking with prize allocation must be submitted in writing to the Referee within a maximum period of 30 minutes from the publication of the results, who will then review the claim.

Other claims must be sent in writing to the Organization’s email: info@mediamaratonmalaga.com, to the attention of the Referee, before the Wednesday following the race.

The Organization will communicate the Referee’s decisions within a maximum of 10 days, after which the results will be considered final. Therefore, all trophies and prizes will be provisional until that moment.

7.3. DISQUALIFICATIONS

Reasons for disqualification include:

  • Providing false personal information during registration (name, surname, age…).
  • Not completing the full course.
  • Not passing through the timing checkpoints located along the course.
  • Not wearing the bib number clearly visible on the chest or altering or covering its sponsor logos.
  • Running with the bib and/or chip assigned to another runner.
  • Not following the instructions of the judges and/or Organization staff.
  • Allowing the bib to be photocopied and used by another runner.
  • Refusing to undergo the doping control.
  • Displaying unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • Any other behavior included in the applicable federative regulations.
  • Additionally, the race medical staff and referees are authorized to remove any athlete from the race who shows signs of poor physical condition.

8. SERVICES OFFERED TO RUNNERS

AID STATIONS

The race will offer liquid aid stations at kilometer points 5.5, 10.5, 12.5, 15.5, and 18, as well as liquid and solid aid at the finish line.

BAGGAGE CHECK

Runners may use a free baggage check service located near the start area, where they can leave their belongings in a bag. The Organization is not responsible for items deposited. The service will be available from 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 7.

Organization staff may request that the bag or backpack be opened to check its contents. Refusal will result in the bag or backpack not being accepted for storage.

TOILETS

Portable toilets will be installed in the Start and Finish areas of the race.

PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICE

All participants who wish to do so may purchase photographs of their race participation.

INSURANCE

All participating runners are covered by civil liability and accident insurance in accordance with current legislation.

The Organization declines all responsibility for physical or moral damages that an athlete may cause to third parties during participation in the race.

PACE SETTERS

The Málaga Half Marathon will have officially identified pacers for the following finish times: 1h25’, 1h30’, 1h40’, 1h50’, 2h00’

OFFICIAL APP

Runners, as well as family, friends, and the general public, may download the race’s Official App for free, available on Google Play and the App Store, where they can track half marathon participants in real time, check bib numbers, or stay informed about everything happening around the race: latest news, course, rules…

VIDEOS

All participants may download their finish line video for free, available on the official website in the days following the race.

OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE

The official certificate, showing overall position, category position, official time, and average pace, will also be available for free download through the official website in the hours following the race.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

The Organization has the necessary medical services to attend to runners during the race.

The Organization recommends that all participants undergo a medical check‑up prior to the race, with each participant accepting the risks inherent to sports activity.

Any athlete with health issues is required to notify the Organization in advance and in writing, mark their bib with a red cross, and indicate on it their name, address, phone number, and the health condition they have.

9. WHEELED DEVICES

The use of any wheeled device during the race is not permitted, except for wheelchairs used by disabled athletes registered in the wheelchair category, approved by the RFEA and officially admitted by the Organization.

Participants in wheelchairs must wear an approved helmet.

10. AUTHORIZED VEHICLES

The course is closed to all vehicles. The only vehicles allowed to follow the race will be those accredited by the Organization.

It is strictly forbidden to follow the runners in any type of motorized or wheeled vehicle (skates, bicycles, etc.).

11. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

All participants, by registering, accept these rules and the regulations of WA, RFEA, and FAA. They also consent to the Málaga Half Marathon Organization, either directly or through third-party entities contracted for this purpose, processing their personal data electronically for sporting, promotional, or commercial purposes, as well as their image within the race through photographs, videos, etc.

For the purposes of current personal data protection legislation, participants are informed that the personal data and official photographs of the Málaga Half Marathon will be incorporated into a file owned by Málaga Sport Ad and Sport Life Ibérica SA, organizers of the event, for the sole purpose of using them exclusively for the purposes requested in the registration form.

The participant may exercise their right of access to these files in order to partially or fully rectify or cancel their content. To exercise this right, they must request it by email at info@mediamaratonmalaga.com, attaching a photocopy of their ID.

In case of doubt regarding any circumstance that may arise, the Organization’s criteria will prevail.
