Race Regulations

REGULATIONS TotalEnergies MÁLAGA HALF MARATHON 2027

Málaga Sport AD and Sport Life Ibérica, with the collaboration of the Hon. Málaga City Council, organize the XXXVI Málaga City Half Marathon; which will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2027, at 8:15 in the morning.

The distance to be covered will be 21.097 km on a course certified by RFEA and World Athletics; open to anyone, licensed or not, provided they are 18 years old on the day of the race.

1. COURSE

This race is held under the World Athletics and RFEA road race regulations, and is included in the RFEA and World Athletics race calendar. The course will be controlled and supervised by the Municipal Police, mobility agents and members of the Organization. In addition, every kilometer will be marked vertically and horizontally.

The road layout for the 2027 edition is as follows:

2. WORLD ATHLETICS, RFEA CALENDAR AND OFFICIALS CONTROL

The XXXVI Málaga City Half Marathon is included in the World Athletics, RFEA and Andalusian Athletics Federation calendars and supervised by the Provincial College of Judges. Any claim must be submitted to the Race Referee within 30 minutes after the official results announcement.

The maximum time to complete the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon is 3h from the official start of the last wave.

The TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon 2027 plans to start in waves to improve comfort and safety for all runners, according to accredited finishing times.

The race start will be organized in waves, from 8:15 a.m., according to the following schedule:

  • At 8:15 athletes up to 1h 30’
  • At 8:20 athletes up to 1h 45’
  • At 8:27 athletes up to 2h
  • 8:35 athletes from 2h onwards

Course control will close progressively at km 5, 10, 15, 20 and Finish, with maximum times of 40’, 1h:20’, 2h:00’, 2h:40’ and 2h:50’, respectively, from the start of the last runner. When a participant exceeds the cut-off time, they will be overtaken by the sweep vehicle, and must withdraw from the race or, if they continue, do so under their own responsibility and obey traffic rules as any other road user.

Aid stations will be located at kilometers 5.5, 10.5, 13, 15.5, 18 and Finish with water and/or isotonic drinks.

The Organization provides Medical Service.

The Organization provides a bag-drop service near the Start area.

Any clarification regarding these regulations will be provided by the Race Organization.

Any manipulation, alteration or falsification of the registered athlete’s personal data will result in immediate disqualification.

The bib number must not be cut or folded and must be worn fully visible on the athlete’s chest.

All officially registered participants will be covered by an Insurance Policy arranged by the Organization, covering accidents occurring as a direct consequence of the event; and never those caused by pre-existing conditions, negligence, imprudence, or violation of the laws and rules of these Regulations. This insurance does not cover incidents occurring during travel to or from the race venue.

The Organization is not responsible for any damages caused by participants through negligence or imprudence. Likewise, the participant declares they are in optimal physical condition to take part and does so under their sole responsibility, exempting the Race Organization from any liability. Registration implies full acceptance of these rules.

The only vehicles allowed to follow the race will be those authorized by the Organization. The Local Police will sanction any drivers who do not comply with these rules.

The categories, for results purposes only, follow the current regulations of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.

3. SUSTAINABLE HALF MARATHON

The Málaga Half Marathon will be carried out in an environmentally respectful manner, and to achieve this, the collaboration of each and every participant is essential. For this reason, we provide this information to facilitate your cooperation:

  • After the aid stations, there will be yellow containers located 30 and 100 meters from the station for disposing of water bottles. If you choose to keep the bottle beyond 100 m, you must keep it with you until the next station. In any case, bottles must be disposed of in the containers, NEVER thrown on the ground.
  • At the finish line, there will be yellow containers placed around the area for the same purpose.
  • Waste must be disposed of in the containers, NEVER thrown on the ground.
  • Respect for the environment: The Race runs through urban areas that must be respected for the benefit of all.

4. REGISTRATIONS:

The Organizing Committee of the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon sets a maximum field of 14,000 participants for the 2027 edition.

Registrations may be completed as follows:

Registration opens on Friday, March 20, 2026, until Monday, March 1, 2027, or until the 14,000 available entries are sold out.

4.1. PRICES AND TIERS:

Seven registration tiers are established, at the following prices:

  • First 2000 registrations or until March 26, 2026:
    • Standard registration: 23 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 11.5 euros
  • From registration 2001 to registration 4000 or from March 27 to May 13, 2026:
    • Standard registration: 28 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 14 euros
  • From registration 4001 to registration 6000 from May 14 to June 30, 2026:
    • Standard registration: 33 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 16.5 euros
  • From registration 6001 to registration 8000 or from July 1 to September 15, 2026:
    • Standard registration: 37 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 18.5 euros
  • From registration 8001 to registration 10000 or from September 16 to December 2, 2026:
    • Standard registration: 41 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 20.5 euros
  • From registration 10001 to registration 12000 or from December 3, 2026 to January 19, 2027:
    • Standard registration: 45 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 22.5 euros
  • From registration 12001 to registration 14000 or from January 20 to March 1, 2027:
    • Standard registration: 50 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 25 euros
  • Registration at the Expo, if bibs are still available (March 5 and 6):
    • Standard registration: 70 €
    • Participants with disabilities (33%): 35 euros
  • Once bibs are sold out, registrations coming from the waiting list to fill the withdrawals of registered runners will cost 70 € (standard registration) and 35 € for participants with disabilities (33%).

* The registration fee must include the cost of the One-Day License of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), which is 4€. This fee will be refunded at the Runner’s Expo to all those who provide proof of having a National Federation License in 2027. The refund desk will be located next to the bib pick-up area, at the Solutions counter.

4.2. CANCELLATION GUARANTEE:

Once registration is completed, no refund will be issued under any circumstances. At the time of registering, the runner may purchase a cancellation guarantee for their registration, with two options, and must select one when registering:

  1. I do not want any guarantee
  2. Standard cancellation guarantee. Cost: 5 €. Refund of 100% of the registration fee until February 14, 2027. After this date, registrations will be considered final.

General conditions of the cancellation guarantee:

  • The cancellation guarantee may only be purchased at the time of registration.
  • The cost of the cancellation guarantee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

However, changes of ownership will be accepted without this guarantee until February 14, 2027 with a cost of 8 €.

Cancellation and ownership change requests must be made via email to inscripciones@deporticket.com within the indicated deadlines.

4.3. REGISTRATION METHODS

Registrations may be completed through the official website mediamaratonmalaga.com

4.4. START IN PREFERRED CORRAL

The runner must indicate their estimated finish time at the moment of registration, in order to access the start corral corresponding to their pace in the start chute and to avoid congestion whenever possible.

To access corrals for times under 1h30’, it will be necessary at the time of registration to provide, via link to the athlete’s result on the official website, proof of a finish time achieved in an officially certified race within the last two years that corresponds to the corral time in which they wish to start.

If the race must be suspended due to weather conditions or force majeure (not attributable to the organizer), the registration fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

4.5. CONSIDERATIONS

  • Registration is personal and non-transferable and implies full acceptance of these rules.
  • Once registration is completed, participation may only be transferred to another person with an ownership change until February 14, 2027, at a cost of 10 €, under the conditions established in these rules.
  • T-shirt sizes will be delivered strictly in order of bib–chip pick-up and according to the size requested at the time of registration. The Organizing Committee does not guarantee delivery of the requested T-shirt size to all participants, since production of the T-shirts begins long before registration closes.
  • Registrations will close earlier than the planned deadlines if all available slots are filled: 14,000 bibs.
  • The registration fee will not be refunded under any circumstances, including injuries or work-related reasons, except for those who have purchased the cancellation insurance under its specific conditions.
  • To certify disability status, documentation must be attached at the time of completing the registration through the registration form itself. Alternatively, a copy of the disability accreditation card may be sent by email to the same address.
  • As of 0:01 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2027, no registrations will be accepted.

5. CATEGORIES

The following categories are established:

  • Overall M / F
  • Sub 20 M / F: Born in 2008 and 2009 (of legal age on race day)
  • Sub 23 M / F: Born from 2005 to 2007
  • Senior M / F: Born from 2004 up to Master (35 years)
  • Master M 35 / F 35: From 35 to 39 years
  • Master M 40 / F 40: From 40 to 44 years
  • Master M 45 / F 45: From 45 to 49 years
  • Master M 50 / F 50: From 50 to 54 years
  • Master M 55 / F 55: From 55 to 59 years
  • Master M 60 / F 60: From 60 to 64 years
  • Master M 65 / F 65: From 65 to 69 years
  • Master M 70 / F 70: From 70 to 74 years
  • Master M 75 / F 75: From 75 to 79 years
  • Master M 80 / F 80: From 80 to 85 years
  • Master M 85 / F 85: Over 85 years.
  • Athletes with wheelchair disability M/ F
  • Athletes with physical disability M/ F
  • Athletes with sensory disability M/F
  • Athletes with intellectual disability M/F

Note: All indicated ages must be reached on race day.

6. BIB-CHIP AND OFFICIAL T-SHIRT PICK-UP

The bib-chip and official T-shirt pick-up will take place exclusively at the TotalEnergies Málaga Half Marathon Expo, at a location to be determined in Málaga, non-stop on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 March 2027, from 10:00 to 20:00 h.

To collect the bib-chip, runners must present the registration receipt or copy, along with their ID card, passport, or another official document proving their identity.

If unable to collect the bib in person, an authorization must be issued to the person collecting it, presenting a photocopy of the registered runner’s ID at pick-up.

The T-shirt will be handed out upon presentation of the bib-chip.

Important:

  • Runners may not request a size different from the one selected at the time of registration.
  • The organization does not guarantee it can deliver the size requested at registration to all runners, as production takes place prior to registration closing.
  • No bibs or T-shirts will be handed out on race day.
  • The bibs contain a disposable chip, so they must not be folded or tampered with or altered in any way, including their advertising.
  • The race time will only be recorded if the bib-chip is correctly placed on the front of the torso.

7. RESULTS. TROPHIES AND PRIZES

The following Results will be produced:

  • Overall Men’s and Women’s Results
  • Overall Men’s and Women’s Results for Athletes with Wheelchair Disability
  • Overall Men’s and Women’s Results for Athletes with Physical Disability
  • Overall Men’s and Women’s Results for Athletes with Sensory Disability
  • Overall Men’s and Women’s Results for Athletes with Intellectual Disability
  • Age group Men’s and Women’s Results
  • Spanish Men’s and Women’s Results

A T-shirt will be given to every athlete registered for the race, handed out when collecting the bib.

A commemorative medal of the race will be given to every athlete who finishes the event.

In the event of multiple or staggered starts, age group results will be based on the official time from the moment their wave starts until they cross the finish line.

The top three finishers in the Overall Results will receive a trophy.

The top 3 finishers in each category will receive a trophy.

All runners who obtain any of the prizes established by the Organization must present their ID card or Passport at the time of collection.

7.1. PRIZES:

These prizes are cumulative with the Individual Overall Results and will only be paid when the achieved time is under 1:03:00 for men and 1:11:00 for women.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • If athletes do not achieve the required minimum time, the cash prize will be reduced by half.
  • The half marathon record prize will be awarded only to the winner and will be cumulative with the rest of the prizes.
  • Proof of identity will be required to collect prizes.
  • All cash prizes are subject to legal tax withholdings and recognition of the time by the RFEA.
  • The prizes for the overall, national and race record results will not be paid until the anti-doping control results are published.
  • If a prize winner tests positive, they will be disqualified and lose the prize, and the classification will move up accordingly.

A Spanish athlete is considered any participant born in Spain.

An Andalusian athlete is considered any participant born in Andalusia.

A Malaga-born athlete is considered any participant born in Málaga.

ALL TROPHIES NOT COLLECTED ON RACE DAY WILL REMAIN AT THE ORGANIZATION’S DISPOSAL, AS IT WILL BE UNDERSTOOD THAT THEY ARE WAIVED.

7.2 PUBLICATION OF RESULTS AND CLAIMS

The provisional results will be posted on a board placed by the Organization next to the finish area and/or podium, as well as on the event’s official website, being the sole responsibility of the RFEA Judges Committee. They will also be published later on the official website.

Claims affecting positions with prize allocation must be submitted in writing to the Referee within 30 minutes after the publication of the results, who will review the claim.

Other claims must be submitted in writing to the Organization’s email: info@mediamaratonmalaga.com, addressed to the Referee, before the Wednesday following the race.

The Organization will communicate the decisions of the Referee Judge within a maximum period of 10 days, after which the results will be considered final. Therefore, all trophies and awards will remain provisional until that moment.

7.3. DISQUALIFICATIONS

Grounds for disqualification will be:

  • Providing false personal data during registration (name, surname, age…).
  • Not completing the full course.
  • Not passing through the checkpoints located along the route.
  • Not wearing the race bib clearly visible on the chest or altering or hiding its advertising.
  • Running with the bib and/or chip assigned to another runner.
  • Not following the instructions of the judges and/or Organization staff.
  • Having given the bib to be photocopied and used by another runner.
  • Refusing to undergo a doping control.
  • Displaying unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • Any other behavior included in the relevant Federation Regulations.
  • Additionally, the medical service of the race and the referee judges are authorized to remove from the race any athlete who shows signs of poor physical condition.

8. SERVICES OFFERED TO RUNNERS

AID STATIONS

The race will have liquid aid stations at kilometers 5.5, 10.5, 12.5, 15.5, and 18, as well as both liquid and solid aid stations at the finish line.

BAG DROP

Runners may use a free bag drop service located near the start, where they can leave their belongings in a bag. The Organization is not responsible for any items deposited. The service will be available from 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 15.

Organization staff may request the opening of the bag or backpack to check its contents. Refusal will result in the bag or backpack not being accepted for safekeeping.

TOILETS

Portable toilets will be installed in the Start and Finish areas of the race.

PHOTO SERVICE

All participants who wish may purchase photographs of their participation in the race.

INSURANCE

All participating runners are covered by civil liability and accident insurance, in accordance with current legislation.

The Organization declines all responsibility for physical or moral damages that an athlete may cause to third parties during participation in the event.

PACERS

The Málaga Half Marathon will have clearly identified pacers for the following finish times: 1h25’, 1h30’, 1h40’, 1h50’, 2h00’

OFFICIAL APP

Runners, as well as their families, friends, and the general public, may download the Official Race App for free, available on Google Play and the App Store, from which they can track half marathon participants in real time, check bib numbers, or stay informed about everything related to the race: latest news, course map, rules, etc.

VIDEOS

All participants may download for free the finish line video, available on the official website in the days following the race.

OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE

The official certificate, which shows overall position, category position, official time, and average pace, will also be available for free download through the official website in the hours following the race.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

The Organization has the necessary medical services to assist runners during the event.

The Organization recommends that all participants undergo a medical check-up before the race, with each participant accepting the risks associated with sporting activity.

Any athlete with health issues is required to notify the Organization in advance and in writing, mark their bib with a red cross, and state their name, address, phone number, and the health condition they have.

9. WHEELED DEVICES

The use of any wheeled device during the race is not permitted, except for wheelchairs used by disabled athletes registered in the wheelchair category, approved by the RFEA and officially accepted by the Organization.

Participants in wheelchairs must wear an approved helmet.

10. AUTHORIZED VEHICLES

The course is closed to all vehicles. The only vehicles allowed to follow the race will be those accredited by the Organization.

It is strictly forbidden to follow the runners in any type of motor vehicle or wheeled device (skates, bicycles, etc.).

11. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

All participants, by completing their registration, accept these rules and the regulations of WA, RFEA, and FAA. They also give their consent for the Málaga Half Marathon Organization, either directly or through third parties contracted for this purpose, to process their personal data electronically for exclusively sporting, promotional, or commercial purposes, as well as their image within the event through photographs, videos, etc.

For the purposes of current personal data protection legislation, you are informed that the personal data and official photographs of the Málaga Half Marathon will be included in a file owned by Málaga Sport Ad and Sport Life Ibérica SA, organizers of the event, with the purpose of using them solely and exclusively for the purposes requested in the registration form.

Participants may exercise their right to access these files in order to rectify or partially or totally cancel their content. To exercise this right, they must request it via email to info@mediamaratonmalaga.com, attaching a photocopy of their ID.

In case of doubt regarding any situation that may arise, the criteria of the Organization will prevail.
